It’s that time of year again… Christmas time! The weather’s changing and the days are shorter, and while you snuggle up inside your home take a moment to think about the animals that don’t have a place to call home. This year especially animals are in need of your help and there’s more than one way to support them.
- Donating
Donating is of course one of the ways you can easily help out the animals in need. Donating isn’t always about the money some shelters accept gifts such as: New or gently used pet toys, treats, blankets, dog food, even newspapers. Some shelters even have a wish list on their website. A list of non-profit organizations and details about them are listed down below for your convince.

2. Share
Sharing a pets story or even the organization themselves is a very effective way to help get the word out about these sweet animals in need. So, if you’re unable to donate sharing to family members, friends, and people on social media will notify those who might be able to donate or even help spread the word to those who can.
3. Support businesses that support shelters
Another way to help these shelters out is to support those businesses that offer a percentage or fixed amount. It’s a win-win-win situation for both you get what you need, while supporting the business and helping out the animals.
My dogs and I created a shop of our own to help donate to shelters called Creativepack and you can check that out.
4. Volunteer
Volunteering is one of the best ways to help a shelter. With many pets being surrendered and some shelter workers having to stay home you’re help would be much appreciated.
5. Adopt/Foster
Adopting a pet from a shelter not only gives you a bestfriend, but gives a pet in need a home. There are many pets that would love to meet you and your family, but not only does it give help you and the animal it helps the shelter to make room for another pet in need. If you’re unable to adopt a pet, but have room to take care of one for a while there’s always fostering. Pet foster parents are a major help to animal shelters because sometimes an animal needs special care or just do not have enough room, so fosters step up to care for these animals and help them find them find their forever home.
These are just a few of the ways to help and support shelters this holiday. You can get creative with these ideas as well like hosting an event to raise money for the shelter or creating DIY toys, gifts and blankets the possibilities are endless.
